wordlessly, euijin offers rowan a small, shiny gem, shimmering white and shaped like a star. it may not be a piece of vertebrae, but it's the closest he could think of that rowan might enjoy.

Rowan stares at the gift being offered to him.

It's shiny. It's pretty. It looks like a star, just like the ones Appa taught him to draw. The ones he would put on everything, with several points extending from a perfectly circular center.

The same ones he would imagine scattered across the basement walls that surrounded him, pretended were there sparkling at him with little crackles of sound when the dark and the silence became too much.

His little fingers flex as he reaches out. Rowan hesitates, fingertips hovering over the stone sitting in Euijin's palm. Is it safe to take it? If he makes it his... Will he owe something in turn?

Appa always gives him gifts. His Hyungs give him gifts, too. All three have always told him to never accept anything from a stranger. But Euijin, with his pretty eyes and his round cheeks and his sweet voice - Appa hasn't made him leave.

And if Appa isn't worried, then Euijin must be safe.

Rowan snatches the stone from Euijin's open hand before the offer is rescinded. He curls his fingers around it and presses it to his chest, focuses on the weight in his palm. His very own star, a gift just for him.

"Thank you," Rowan whispers. He peeks at Euijin, lashes fluttering over his eyes. "Special star. Thank you."
